Let me just get this out of the way. The Brits might not technically own their car companies anymore but that doesn't stop them from making some of the finest cars on the road. Bentley and Rolls Royce are the top tier luxury cars it has been that way since the death of many marques in the 1930s.
The rivalry however it rather new since the departure of Rolls owning Bentley. The 500,000 dollar question is which car would you rather own?
The answer for me is pretty straightforward. Bentley. The racing heritage at Le Mans might not transmit into the cars they make but the rich history makes me want to own a Bentley. Furthermore the "new money" appears to buy the Continental or Phantom and bling it out. I don't see that with the Mulsanne quite as much. Therefore Mulsanne I choose you. Classier and rarer than the Phantom it is the only choice.

I'd forego the question and get a Wraith.
Don't those doors just look like they mean business?

Bentley only has a V-8 while the Rolls is a 12, but the Bentley has an extra 50 HP but also an extra 100 lbs. Rolls has a better warranty but also a $100k extra on the sticker. I'll take a Mustang. j/k probably the Bentley

Neither, but the Rolls-Royce. Unless there is a street version of the Conti GT3. I'd rock that. The whole 'racing' heritage of Bentley is just not what I want in a prole-crushing luxury wafting device. Also, the Rolls V12 can't trace it's lineage back to some chav-Golf, like the W12. And RR doesn't do SUV's.
So yeah. Dark purple metallic Wraith for me, without the two-tone.

This. A million times this. So much more attractive.

I'm secretly a fan of the Mulsanne. Maybe I could even afford a really bad one in 15 years or so. I hope it sells well so I have more to choose...

Are you aware that you could buy exactly 12.434 V6 Mustangs for the price of the Mulsanne? 100% overpriced. /s

Bentley

yea but you coulda had a V8

If the classics count, I'd rather have a classic rolls, like this here sliver shadow (saw one at wawa's) or the corniche since they are infinitely more classy than their bentley counterparts. The Bentley LM cars seem more like boy racers instead of the rather gentleman rolls.

If you're buying a Bentley you'll have a fleet of other cars available which if you're in a country that buys that kind of thing you might well have a Mustang in it.

You can buy these quite cheaply, if you're brave.

Rolls because I'm local to the factory.

For the price of a V8 Mustang, you could buy 1.314 V6 Mustangs.

i'm ok with that. cant really do much with a 1/3 of a car. that like 9 V8s which is cool with me.

I always thought of a Bentley as the drivers car of the two.

It'll cost nearly the same as a new one after a year anyways.

It depends. The continental and flying spurare nice, but if you want to talk common, New money car's, they're everywhere. They are still great, and I love them, but they aren't as exclusive as you'd think.
I thing the Phantom is more popular than the mulsanne because most people find the front of the mulsanne to be not as nice as a phantom or arnage. My favorite Bentleys, the Arnage, azure, and brooklands, are gone. So as much as I love their current lineup, I love the wraith, ghost, and phantoms even more.
So currently, I prefer Rolls-Royce.

The only model I'd consider from either manufacturer would be the RR Wraith.

I like the Rolls. I see Bentley's daily, I rarely see a rolls.

Bentley, because I don't want to constantly be asked if I have any Grey Poupon

If we are comparing coupes call me nuts but I would have this one:
Beautiful in green. I know it is the Toyota for rich people but the new generation is gorgeous.

The death the Arnage lineup was a sad death indeed. I do love the Continental but as you said they are very common. Bentley needs to bring back the Brooklands and Azure on the Mulsanne platform for more variety.

Do you see a Mulsanne daily?
![]() 11/24/2014 at 12:28 |

That depends on the question, if we're going for the classics, Bentley. The corniche and the silver shadow never did it for me, but Bentley's old school 1930s cars like the 8-litre or their 90s efforts like the turbo R are very classy and nice. But if we're talking about new school, Rolls hands down, the Phantom looks nice and classy and regal, where the Bentleys with their bug-eyed headlights and large grills look kind of deformed.

No no not a Mulsanne, but I have seen one. Mostly Continental GT's as you would imagine, I also see the same 3-4 sedans I wanna say Arnage.

And it's actually within the realm of affordability.

I know this is old but just randomly found this post while looking around on Google. I’d take the Mulsanne as well, especially the Speed. It’s 10x the car the Ghost will ever be. Not that the Ghost isn’t a great car, it clearly is. But it’s still a 7 Series underneath. All of the “metal” inside the car is chromed plastic. Lots of the switchgear is subpar too. It’s a bit technologically superior to the Bentley but that’s about it. It’s only a bit faster, and doesn’t handle as well. It’s “smaller and lighter” but again only by a bit. The Phantom is really more the target of the Mulsanne, despite the protests of Rolls Royce. The Ghost is cool, and I do like it...but the Mulsanne is pretty much the ultimate sedan money can buy, apart from an S65 AMG. It has an insane interior, it’s entirely hand-built in England, and has more presence than an Aventador Roadster. Easy choice here.

1. The W12 does not “trace its roots back to some chav-Golf”, and it doesn’t matter because
2. The Mulsanne uses a hand-built, bespoke 6.75 liter V8 that Bentley has been using for half a century. Full-size Bentleys (and Rolls-Royces for a little while) are the only cars that have ever used this engine.
![]() 06/01/2015 at 01:56 |

yes it does as a w12 is two vr6s glued together. And it matters because the bentley competition to the RR wraith uses the w12. The 6 3/4L v8 is also a Rolls powerplant. Not Bentley. Bentley just stuck with it after the split between the two.

So the only sedan you would take over a Mulsanne Speed is the AMG? That is interesting because AMG is half price

Alright guy, clearly you have an axe to grind for no apparent reason. The rest of us will appreciate some of the finest cars ever made. You can sit there and pretend they’re all Golfs and that’s “totally why you’re not buying one” or whatever it is.
![]() 06/04/2015 at 16:40 |

Ideally, I’d have an S65 coupe and a Mulsanne, if that makes sense. The new S Class is just an insanely great car in so many ways, although the Mulsanne still has it beat in terms of just pure decadence and insane quality. So, I’d need to have one of each.
![]() 06/04/2015 at 17:40 |

I understand that. The S65 is “just” a fancy S-Class. The Mulsanne is a bespoke piece of British heritage and craftsmanship
